Liposomal Absorption and Bioavailability of Vitamin C
Vitamin C is water-soluble and has a hydrophilic character, which limits its absorption from the intestine into the bloodstream due to the intestinal lipid barrier and specific transporters. For example, with a single oral dose of 1000 mg, up to 80% may be excreted without being effectively utilized by the body. The goal of liposomal technology is to "lend" vitamin C a lipophilic character, enabling liposomal absorption, which is less limited by the capacity of intestinal transport molecules and allows significantly higher amounts of vitamin C to be absorbed. Liposomal absorption thus helps maintain much higher levels of vitamin C in the body, enhancing its availability for antioxidant protection of healthy cells—especially for the immune and nervous systems. At the same time, gradual and efficient absorption is gentler on the kidneys and the digestive tract.

Lipo C Askor Forte has high bioavailability.
The key factor in evaluating the quality of a product is not so much the production technology itself, but rather the evidence that the product ensures a sufficiently high level of bioavailability, specifically the plasma concentration of vitamin C in the blood. This issue was addressed in a published study (Boženský et al., 2021), which evaluated plasma concentrations of vitamin C after a single dose (1 gram). The results confirmed the high bioavailability of liposomal absorption of vitamin C in the case of RosaCelip-LD (Lipo C Askor Forte).

A pharmacoeconomic analysis demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of Lipo C Askor Forte.
Products with the lowest absolute price are not necessarily the cheapest in terms of the cost of biologically available vitamin C. A pharmacoeconomic analysis, based on the aforementioned study, evaluated the bioavailability of compared products, their current market prices, and calculated the cost per 1 gram of absorbed vitamin C.
In other words, bioavailability offers a clear insight into how costly 1 gram of a particular form of vitamin C is when effectively absorbed and available in the body. The analysis used prices listed on the Heureka online portal (June 2021).
The results of this pharmacoeconomic analysis showed that the most expensive option was a liposomal vitamin C formulation containing 30% fat and 70% vitamin C (which reflects most products on the market), with the cost of 1 gram of bioavailable vitamin C at 4.60 CZK. Slightly less expensive was unprotected vitamin C at 4.40 CZK per gram, followed by a retard (sustained-release) formulation at 3.40 CZK. The most cost-effective product was Lipo C Askor Forte, with a price of only 2.40 CZK per 1 gram of absorbed vitamin C. The analysis demonstrated that the products with the lowest price per package may not offer the best value in terms of actual bioavailable vitamin C. Based on this pharmacoeconomic evaluation, Lipo C Askor Forte is considered the least expensive and most efficient option. Moreover, it is the only product on the market equipped with URO-C-KONTROL® test strips, which allow for semi-quantitative estimation of vitamin C levels in the body.

Why is it important for our body to have a sufficient supply of vitamin C?
Vitamin C is an essential physiological active substance for the human body, which it cannot synthesize on its own. Therefore, we rely on its daily supplementation.
Vitamin C is necessary for antioxidant protection against oxidative stress, for the proper functioning of the immune and nervous systems, for reducing fatigue and exhaustion, and for collagen production, which is crucial for the strength of tissues such as blood vessels, cartilage, bones, skin, and hair. Without vitamin C, basic immune cells (leukocytes), including phagocytes that eliminate foreign substances (such as viruses and bacteria), would not function. Additionally, the lymphocyte-based arm of the immune system—responsible for defense against viruses, bacteria, and even tumor cells—would also be impaired. High concentrations of vitamin C are maintained in nerve cells, especially in the brain, and its role in supporting the nervous system has been demonstrated not only in adults but also in school-age children.

Vitamin C contributes to
-
the normal function of the immune system
-
mental balance, normal psychological function, and the normal functioning of the nervous system
-
the protection of cells from oxidative stress
-
the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
-
normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, skin, and teeth
-
increased iron absorption

Rosehip contributes to:
-
the body’s natural defenses and resistance
-
the normal function of the respiratory system
-
normal kidney function and normal digestion

Unique test strips included in the package
The test strips (part of the URO-C-KONTROL® in vitro diagnostic medical device) are designed for the semi-quantitative determination of ascorbic acid concentration in urine. The test result should be evaluated by a physician.
Approximately 30 seconds after dipping the strip into fresh urine, the resulting colour provides indicative information about a potential deficiency of ascorbic acid in the body and its severity. In the optimal case (yellow coloration), the current dosage may be continued. In the case of vitamin C deficiency (green coloration), the daily intake should be increased. This approach is particularly important, as the body’s daily need and consumption of vitamin C depends significantly on current psychological and physical stress levels. For interpretation of the result and additional details, please refer to the package leaflet.
